Hartford police have identified Chevoyia Rivers, a 30-year-old man, as the victim of a daytime homicide that occurred on Thursday afternoon. Officers were dispatched to Florence Street shortly after 1 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, they found Rivers lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts from both the officers and fire department personnel, he was transported to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two men, which escalated just prior to the gunfire. Fortunately, no other individuals were injured during the incident, and police are currently searching for the suspect involved.
Video footage capturing the incident is available, which is expected to aid investigators in their inquiries. This tragic event marks the city’s 15th homicide of the year.
