The Melbourne Police Department is investigating a tragic incident that occurred late Friday night, resulting in the death of a man. The accident took place on the Melbourne Causeway, just west of the high-rise, around 11:26 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries who sadly died at the scene.
Authorities believe that the victim, identified as 43-year-old James Gaudet, was lying in the roadway within the travel lanes when he was struck by a westbound 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Police do not suspect that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
