Fatal Trinity County motorcycle crash death of David Wilkie – Obituary.
On the evening of October 2, 2024, around 7:30 PM, the California Highway Patrol’s Trinity River Area received reports of a motorcycle accident on State Route 299 near Burnt Ranch. Emergency responders, including the CHP, Hawkins Bar Volunteer Fire, and Hoopa Valley Ambulance, arrived at the scene located at mile post marker 299 TRI 12.97.
By 7:46 PM, CHP units took charge of the situation. Their investigation revealed that David Wilkie, the motorcycle’s operator and only occupant, was heading westbound on SR-299 when he lost control for reasons that are still being examined. As a result, his motorcycle veered off the road and collided with a steep rock embankment, causing him to be thrown from the bike and hit the embankment directly.
Witnesses, including emergency personnel, administered CPR and other life-saving measures for roughly half an hour. Unfortunately, Wilkie did not survive the injuries sustained in the crash and was declared dead at the scene. At the time of the accident, he was wearing a DOT-approved helmet. Investigators have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident, which remains under CHP investigation.
The Trinity River CHP expressed gratitude to the agencies that assisted during this tragic event and extended their condolences to the family of Mr. Wilkie for their loss.
