Fatal Jefferson County industrial accident death of Cameron Powell – Obituary.
A tragic industrial accident claimed the life of Cameron Powell, a 36-year-old construction contractor from Vidor, on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia plant, located near the old Beaumont Works terminal off Twin City Highway, shortly after 8:30 a.m.
According to Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson, Powell fell approximately 60 to 70 feet while working inside a tank at the OCI plant. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and he was transported by ambulance to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 9:30 a.m.
In a statement released by Woodside Energy, the company expressed condolences to Powell’s family and highlighted the importance of workplace safety. Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill stated, “This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends, and workmates.”
The company also announced a stand-down of all work at the site while a full investigation into the accident is conducted, emphasizing their commitment to understanding the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. All other individuals present at the site were reported to be safe. Senior management from Woodside is expected to provide support to the employees in Beaumont during this difficult time.
