Authorities released further details on Sunday regarding the ongoing investigation into the death of 76-year-old Cynthia Lanchester, who was allegedly killed in a hammer attack by her grandson over the weekend in Easton, New Hampshire.
Attorney General John Formella revealed autopsy results, confirming that Cynthia Lanchester’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, and her death was officially classified as a homicide.
Officials had previously reported that Cynthia’s grandson, 23-year-old Joshua Lanchester, was arrested on Saturday. He faces a charge of second-degree murder for recklessly causing her death using a hammer.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the attack, and the specific details surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Authorities had stated that state troopers first encountered Joshua Lanchester when they responded to a 911 call regarding a medical emergency at 44 North Peak Drive at 11:41 a.m. on the day of the incident. Upon arrival, they discovered Cynthia Lanchester lying on the ground, dead from blunt force trauma.
Joshua Lanchester is currently being held without bail and is set to be arraigned Monday in 2nd Circuit Court — District Division in Littleton. It is unclear whether he has legal representation at this time.
