Alejandro Contreras, 30, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on September 28, 2024, in National City, California. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when Contreras was crossing Sweetwater Road in the 2400 block. A dark-colored SUV struck him, and although the driver briefly stopped to move him to the side of the road, they fled the scene immediately afterward.
Emergency responders rushed Contreras to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Roughly eight hours after the crash, authorities arrested 43-year-old Bennie Ray Womack in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
