Fatal Roswell shooting death of Jason Torres – Obituary

New Mexico State Police have identified the individual fatally shot by a Roswell Police officer as Jason Torres, 41, from Roswell. The incident took place on Thursday on the Roswell Relief Route, following an attempt by law enforcement to stop Torres due to suspected possession of illegal narcotics and firearms.

 

According to reports, Torres initially stopped his vehicle but then fled, leading to a chase that ended when he exited his vehicle armed with a rifle. At the intersection of South Main Street and the Roswell Relief Route, a Roswell Police officer fired at least one shot, striking Torres. Despite receiving aid, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

 

No officers were injured during the incident. The New Mexico State Police are currently investigating the shooting, and they will compile their findings for the District Attorney’s office. This incident marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of police actions in the area, as Torres had a history of legal issues, including charges related to trafficking controlled substances and illegal possession of firearms.
