Fatal Colleton County shooting death of Joseph Horan V – Obituary.
In a tragic incident on Tuesday night in Colleton County, South Carolina, 32-year-old Joseph Horan V was shot and killed by a deputy. The incident took place in a parking lot off Sniders Highway, near a Best Western and Ruby Tuesday, where law enforcement responded to reports of a disturbance involving Horan vandalizing vehicles by slashing tires and breaking windows.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted to engage with Horan, requesting that he drop a knife he was wielding. Horan refused to comply and allegedly attempted to attack one of the deputies. In response, the deputy discharged their weapon, resulting in Horan’s death at the scene.
The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office has requested the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to conduct an investigation into the incident. The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, though their identity has not yet been disclosed.
