The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation into the crash of a Rans S12S aircraft. An investigator from the NTSB is currently en route to the site to begin documenting the scene and examining the aircraft, which will subsequently be secured for further evaluation.
While the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatality, the NTSB is seeking any witnesses or individuals with relevant surveillance footage or information to assist in the investigation.
The NTSB’s investigation will focus on several critical areas: the pilot, the aircraft, and the operating environment. They will collect flight data, air traffic control recordings, maintenance records, and other pertinent details to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A preliminary report will be issued within 30 days, while a comprehensive final report is expected to follow in 12 to 24 months, detailing the probable cause and any contributing factors related to the incident.
