Steven Barron dies in fatal El Cajon stabbing
Fatal El Cajon stabbing death of Steven Barron – Obituary.
A 71-year-old man, Steven Barron, has died following a stabbing incident in El Cajon, California, earlier this month. According to the El Cajon Police Department, officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 800 block of Benedict Avenue on October 5 around 9:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, police encountered a suspect, 44-year-old Gregory Carlomagno, who was armed with a knife. Barron was found suffering from a stab wound to the torso and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police reports indicate that both men were homeless and had met shortly before the incident. Barron was reportedly giving Carlomagno a ride to a store when his car broke down. For reasons that remain under investigation, Carlomagno stabbed Barron during this time.
When officers attempted to detain Carlomagno at the scene, he fled and attempted to carjack a passerby, who successfully escaped unharmed. Eventually, police apprehended Carlomagno in the 700 block of W. Main Street and took him into custody. He is currently being held at the San Diego County Central Jail.
Tragically, Barron succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Saturday. At the time of the stabbing, Carlomagno was on felony probation for grand theft and had a lengthy criminal history, including a felony conviction for elder abuse.
