The Maine Warden Service discovered John’s body on Thursday, October 17, 2024, roughly 200 yards away from where his wife, aged 72, was found severely hypothermic but alive. The couple had gone for a walk with their dogs on Sunday in the woods behind their home but became disoriented after John fell and couldn’t get up. Without cell phones, the wife tried to get help but lost her way.
A neighbor, who frequently checked on them, noticed a package left untouched on their porch, leading them to report the couple missing to law enforcement on Wednesday. Search teams, including game wardens, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Maine Search and Rescue Dogs, began looking for the couple that evening.
John’s wife, found with one of their dogs, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while John was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
