Fatal Butler County head-on crash death of Wyatt Sidney Duckworth – Obituary.
The coroner’s office has confirmed the identity of the 16-year-old boy who lost his life in a head-on collision in Butler County on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on West Elkton Road, located about 20 minutes north of Hamilton.
Sgt. Steven Poff of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, who leads the accident reconstruction unit, reported that Duckworth was driving a 2005 Pontiac heading north when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 60-year-old man. Medics pronounced Duckworth dead at the scene due to multiple traumatic injuries.
His 13-year-old sister, who was a passenger in the Pontiac, was transported by helicopter to Dayton Children’s Hospital and is currently in critical condition. The driver of the Suburban also sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
Wyatt was an 11th grader at Preble Shawnee Local Schools, where his sister is an 8th grader. Superintendent Todd Bowling expressed the community’s sorrow, noting that it is a small area where everyone knows each other. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
