Rodney Boren, a 65-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, has been identified as the individual who died in a crash south of Palo early Wednesday morning. According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. at the intersection of Covington Road and Chain Bridge Road.
Investigators report that Boren’s vehicle was traveling south on Covington Road when it veered into a ditch, rolled over, and subsequently caught fire.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. This tragic incident is part of a larger trend in Iowa, where 274 fatalities have been recorded on the state’s roads this year, marking a decrease of 19 from the same time last year. Over the past five years, an average of 350 individuals have died in crashes annually across Iowa.
