A tragic mass shooting during a trail ride in Holmes County has resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to eight others. The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday near North Highway 17, approximately five miles from Lexington, following the homecoming event for Holmes County Consolidated School.
Sheriff Willie March reported that attendees of the trail ride were targeted when a shooter opened fire after an altercation broke out. The three victims have been identified as 25-year-old Martel Gibson, along with 19-year-olds Shundra Chestnut and John Jenkins. Several other individuals who sustained injuries were airlifted to local hospitals for treatment.
Investigators suspect that the shooter utilized a weapon equipped with a switch. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and law enforcement is urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Holmes County sheriff’s office or Crime Stoppers.
