Fatal Lafayette crash death of Molly Deshotels – Obituary
A tragic traffic accident early Sunday morning at the intersection of Bertrand Drive and West Congress Street resulted in the death of a Lafayette woman. Lafayette Police were dispatched to the scene around 3:50 a.m. on October 20, 2024, after receiving reports of a collision. Upon arrival, officers found 33-year-old Molly Deshotels deceased due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Deshotels was driving north on Bertrand Drive when she failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with West Congress Street. Her vehicle collided with another car traveling westbound on West Congress, which had a yellow traffic signal, striking the driver’s side of Deshotels’ vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Ochsner University Hospital and Clinic with injuries. There were no signs of impairment in that driver, although a voluntary blood sample was collected, with results pending.
The Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the incident, including reviewing footage from nearby surveillance cameras to gather more information regarding the events leading up to the fatal crash.
