Fatal Meriden UTV crash death of Robert Sharkevich – Obituary
Robert Sharkevich, a 66-year-old firefighter from Wethersfield, tragically lost his life while battling a large brush fire on Lamentation Mountain. The accident occurred on Tuesday, October 22, during firefighting efforts when the utility vehicle (UTV) he was in rolled over on a steep, rocky incline.
Meriden police reported that the incident involved four firefighters, one of whom suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Sharkevich, a retired firefighter from Hartford, was confirmed deceased at the site of the accident.
An investigation is currently underway, led by the Meriden Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit in conjunction with the Detective Division and assisted by the Midstate Accident Reconstruction Unit.
