A man has been charged following a tragic multi-vehicle accident in Greer, South Carolina, which resulted in one fatality and injuries to two others. The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of South Line Street and East Poinsett Street. According to the Greenville County coroner’s office, 63-year-old Johnny Carlton Elder of Greer died after midnight Wednesday from injuries sustained in the collision.
Three individuals were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital following the incident. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee involved in the crash, 29-year-old Matthew Beauchemin, has been charged with reckless homicide. Reports indicate that Beauchemin was driving at a high speed, crossing railroad tracks before the Jeep became airborne and collided with the rear of Elder’s Honda CR-V. This impact caused the Honda to veer off the road and crash into a nearby home.
Beauchemin, the sole occupant of the Jeep, has been denied bond at his arraignment. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, led by the Greenville County coroner’s office and the Greer Police Department.
