Essex Jackson dies in fatal Phoenix, Arizona police shooting
Fatal Phoenix, Arizona police shooting death of Essex Jackson – Obituary.
The Phoenix Police Department has named 31-year-old Essex Jackson as the man who was fatally shot after seizing control of an officer’s stun gun inside a Dollar Tree store.
The incident occurred on the night of October 20, 2024, at the Dollar Tree located near the intersection of West Glendale and North 35th avenues. According to police reports, employees called the authorities because Jackson, armed with a large knife, refused to exit the store.
After Jackson retreated into a storeroom and climbed onto a cooler, officers managed to coax him down. However, when they attempted to detain him, a physical altercation ensued that spilled into the main part of the store. During this struggle, Jackson was able to take control of one of the officers’ stun guns, prompting the police to discharge their weapons.
Efforts to locate any family members of Jackson have so far been unsuccessful.
