A tragic incident unfolded in Ridgewood, Queens, when 13-year-old Adolfo Sanabria Sorzano lost his life while attempting a dangerous TikTok challenge known as subway surfing. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 10 p.m. at the Forest Avenue subway station, where authorities discovered the boy unconscious after he fell from the top of an M train.
Emergency services pronounced Adolfo dead at the scene. His mother described the TikTok challenge as “awful” and expressed the profound loss of her vibrant child. To help cover funeral costs, she has initiated a GoFundMe campaign, stating, “Adolfo was a child full of life, with dreams and hopes, and his passing has left a void that is impossible to fill. I ask you with all my heart to help us say goodbye to him with the dignity he deserves. Any donation, large or small, will be a huge relief in these difficult times.”
This incident follows the death of an 11-year-old boy last month, who also succumbed to injuries from subway surfing in Brooklyn. Additionally, on Thursday morning, a 20-year-old man was injured while subway surfing in the Bronx. The NYPD reports that he fell from the No. 5 train and was struck by an unknown object before the fall, suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have intensified their efforts to combat this dangerous trend, resulting in 163 arrests related to subway surfing in 2024, reflecting a 22% increase compared to the previous year.
