Fatal Tippecanoe car-train death of Maurice F. Horn – Obituary
On Saturday morning, a tragic car-train collision claimed the life of Maurice F. Horn of Rochester. At approximately 10:10 a.m., Marshall County Central Dispatch was alerted to an incident at the railroad crossing on Illion Street, located at the south end of Tippecanoe.
When first responders arrived, they discovered a heavily damaged Ford F150 with Horn still inside. Despite significant efforts to extricate him from the vehicle, he was unresponsive once removed. Emergency responders tried to revive him, but he was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene.
According to the Marshall County Coroner’s report, the crossing arms were lowered at the time of the accident, but Horn reportedly bypassed the barrier, placing his vehicle directly on the tracks where it was struck.
The Marshall County Coroner’s Office, along with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident. Tippecanoe Fire, Bourbon Fire, Lutheran EMA & Air, and Reichert-Knepp Towing assisted at the scene.
