Milwaukee faced a tragic weekend of gun violence, with multiple shootings claiming lives, including that of 17-year-old Monte Edmond. Family members identified Edmond as one of the victims, who was killed near 18th and Capitol on Saturday. On Sunday, October 27, friends, family, and classmates gathered for a vigil on N. 18th Street to honor him.
According to Milwaukee police, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday. Edmond’s mother, Shonie, shared that her son was a bright presence with an incredible personality who made a lasting impact on everyone around him. A 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody in connection with his death.
This tragedy has further stirred concerns about youth violence. Shonie expressed her hope for young people to consider their actions carefully and to choose a path away from violence.
Earlier on Saturday, another shooting claimed the life of a 12-year-old near 48th and Center, with a 15-year-old being arrested for the incident. Additionally, a 49-year-old man was shot and killed near 14th and Atkinson, and a 26-year-old suspect was arrested in that case. Police are actively investigating these incidents and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
