A family in North Linden is mourning the loss of 16-year-old Me’Khi Keys, who was shot and killed early Wednesday morning. Columbus Police reported that Keys was found on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of East Weber Road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Riverside Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Me’Khi, affectionately known as Khi to his family and friends, was described by his older sister, Shia, as someone who loved being surrounded by loved ones and enjoyed making jokes. His passions included video games, music, and biking. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 12:03 a.m. following reports of the shooting. Witnesses indicated that Keys was walking with another juvenile and became involved in a confrontation with two males before being shot.
Columbus Police Sergeant Joe Albert expressed the community’s sorrow, noting the heartbreaking reality of losing a young life with so much potential.
