Fatal Aiken County truck crash claims life of Billy D. Graham – Obituary
Billy D. Graham, a 61-year-old resident of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away early Sunday morning following a severe truck accident on Saturday night, as reported by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 8:50 p.m. on Chime Bell Church Road in Aiken County when the 1998 Ford F-150 Graham was driving veered off the road, struck a tree, and then came to rest in a ditch. Graham was transported to a nearby hospital in Augusta, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 12:30 a.m., according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.
Authorities have not yet determined whether Graham was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.
Investigations by the Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office are ongoing to determine what caused the truck to leave the roadway. A toxicology test is also pending to assist in the investigation, Coroner Ables noted.
As of Thursday, a total of 612 individuals have died on South Carolina’s roads in 2023, according to data from the state Department of Public Safety. Aiken County alone has seen at least 24 traffic fatalities this year, nearing last year’s total of 29 for the area.
