A 60-year-old woman, Qiang Wu, was discovered deceased in the waters near College Point, Queens, on the afternoon of October 31. Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police received a 911 call around 2:55 p.m. reporting a person in the water near 115th Street and Poppenhusen Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers found Wu unresponsive and unconscious. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Officials are still working to determine the cause of death, which is pending an examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The investigation remains active as detectives gather more information related to Wu’s passing.
