Demarcus Barnes, a 16-year-old senior and football player at Ripley High School, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in Ripley, Tennessee. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Northcrest subdivision, where another 16-year-old boy was also injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg.
Following this unexpected loss, a memorial has been established outside Ripley High School in Barnes’ honor. The school’s athletic department expressed grief, acknowledging the sudden and unexplainable nature of the tragedy. Lauderdale County Schools Superintendent Shawn Kimble extended his condolences to Barnes’ family and the community, describing the event as a “senseless tragedy” and asking for prayers to support those affected.
