Fatal western Wisconsin kayaking death of Emiliano Alonzo Linaldi Enriquez – Obituary
MAPLE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Wis. – A 17-year-old from Minneapolis, Emiliano Alonzo Linaldi Enriquez, tragically drowned after a kayaking accident on Kirby Lake in western Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. when Enriquez and his brother’s kayaks capsized.
Multiple 911 callers reported hearing cries for help as the two brothers struggled in the water. Local authorities, along with emergency responders from several agencies, including the Shell Lake Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene. Sonar was used to locate Enriquez, and divers from the Chetek Fire Department eventually recovered his body from the lake.
An air ambulance rushed Enriquez to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that neither of the brothers had been wearing life jackets at the time of the accident. The incident remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.
