On Sunday morning, November 10, 2024, 55-year-old Ronnie Dell Weakley was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing the street at the intersection of Helton and Huntsville Road in Florence. The incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. when Weakley, crossing without the right of way, was hit by a vehicle whose driver had a green light. An off-duty dispatcher witnessed the crash and called it in. The driver remained at the scene, but no charges have been filed as the investigation continues. Weakley was pronounced dead at the scene. This marks the seventh pedestrian fatality in the Shoals area in recent months.
