Fatal Rockford bicycle crash death of Sylvia Coton – Obituary
Sylvia Coton, a 65-year-old resident of Rockford, was killed in a tragic accident involving an SUV early Monday morning on the northwest side of Rockford. The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. near the intersection of Latham Street and Deborah Avenue, where Coton was struck by an SUV while riding her bicycle.
Responders from the Rockford Fire Department and Rockford Police arrived at the scene after a 911 call and found Coton trapped beneath the vehicle. She was declared dead at 7:45 a.m. An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, and the official cause of death is still under investigation. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and Rockford Police Department are continuing their inquiries into the fatal collision.
