Roger B. Lim dies in fatal Caldwell County crash involving fleeing driver
Fatal Caldwell County crash death of Roger B. Lim – Obituary
Roger B. Lim, 50, a physician at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, tragically lost his life Saturday evening in Caldwell County when his vehicle was struck by a driver fleeing from law enforcement. The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 321A and Hibriten Drive SW.
The suspect, 28-year-old Randy Deion Collins of Franklin, N.C., was attempting to evade a traffic stop initiated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for speeding on U.S. 321. Collins failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with Lim’s 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, which was traveling south on U.S. 321A. Lim was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.
Collins was arrested and faces charges of second-degree murder, speeding to elude arrest, driving while impaired, reckless driving, and other traffic violations. Authorities believe speed and impairment were contributing factors in the crash.
The State Highway Patrol’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Collins is being held in the Caldwell County Detention Center without bond.
