Fatal Tumwater crash death of Dane A. Nielsen – Obituary
Dane A. Nielsen, 33, of Olympia, tragically lost his life on Thursday night when his vehicle was struck by a driver fleeing law enforcement in Tumwater. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. after a Thurston County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a reckless driver traveling at 62 mph in a 35 mph zone on Yelm Highway.
The suspect fled westbound on Yelm Highway, leading the deputy south on Henderson Boulevard before losing sight of the vehicle near Tumwater Boulevard. The deputy later discovered the crash scene at Capitol Boulevard, where Nielsen, an uninvolved motorist, was fatally struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver responsible, a 30-year-old man, was apprehended and is facing charges of vehicular homicide and attempting to elude law enforcement.
A Go Fund Me campaign has been established to support Nielsen’s family, including his partner and two children. As of now, over $10,000 has been raised toward the $50,000 goal to aid his family during this tragic time.
