Victor Enrique Castaneda Jr., 19, tragically died after going missing during a swim at Key Biscayne on Saturday, November 9. The Miami Beach Fire Rescue and Police, alongside the U.S. Coast Guard, conducted an extensive search for several hours but could not locate Castaneda. He was later entered into the missing persons database.
Days later, on Tuesday, a human head was discovered behind Ocean Sound Key Colony, prompting an immediate investigation. On Friday, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner confirmed the remains belonged to Castaneda, though the cause of death has not been released.
Castaneda had been swimming with his younger sister when he disappeared into the ocean. His family has expressed deep grief over his loss, with his sister Jessica writing on Facebook, “The pain I’m left with is insurmountable… Your absence will never be accepted. No words could ever describe how much I love you, Victor.”
