Emily Roney dies in fatal Moffett Road shooting
Fatal Moffett Road shooting death of Emily Roney – Obituary
Emily Roney, 40, tragically died after being shot inside a minivan traveling west on Moffett Road on Monday morning. According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Roney was struck in the back by a .45 caliber handgun her 68-year-old father, Ricky Smith, was loading with recently purchased ammunition.
Semmes Police Chief Todd Friend stated that officers arrived to find Roney unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which was still stopped on Moffett Road. Two men, including Smith, were found outside the vehicle.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, which Smith claims was an accidental discharge.
