Fatal Columbus shooting death of Alejandro Lopez-Lechuga – Obituary

Alejandro Lopez-Lechuga, 44, was fatally shot early Wednesday morning in a violent confrontation in the 2700 block of Jester Lane on the Northeast Side of Columbus. Police reported that Lopez-Lechuga had attempted to confront 16-year-old Ricardo Ramirez, who was allegedly trying to break into cars in the area. The confrontation escalated when Ramirez shot Lopez-Lechuga.

 

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting and rushed Lopez-Lechuga to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m.

 

After the incident, homicide detectives worked tirelessly for over 16 hours, utilizing video evidence to identify Ramirez as a suspect in the crime. The detectives tracked down the vehicle that Ramirez was driving, prompting a police response involving SWAT and plainclothes officers. The vehicle was stopped later that afternoon, which led to a police shooting where Ramirez was injured and taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

 

Ramirez has since been charged in connection with Lopez-Lechuga’s death, with further investigations continuing into his actions before and after the shooting.
