Fatal Gulfport hit-and-run death of Chadrick Vaughan Sr. – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed the death of 39-year-old Chadrick Vaughan Sr. from Gulfport, who was involved in a hit-and-run incident on the evening of November 19. Vaughan was struck by a vehicle while walking at the intersection of 25th Avenue and 19th Street. Despite being initially in stable condition, his health deteriorated, and he passed away the following day at Memorial Hospital due to blunt force trauma.
Gulfport police arrested 78-year-old Elio Gonzalo Fombellida, the suspect involved in the collision. Fombellida, who had initially fled the scene, was later apprehended and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and possession of a controlled substance. Authorities discovered cocaine on Fombellida when he was taken into custody. He is currently being held on a $300,000 bond at the Harrison County jail.
The crash, which also involved a collision with a UPS truck and two other vehicles, caused significant traffic disruptions as it closed several lanes on 25th Avenue for over an hour. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further charges may be added.
