Fatal Coryell County crash death of Michael Scott Hughes – Obituary

A tragic series of events unfolded in Coryell County, Texas, on November 21, 2024, when a police pursuit led to a deadly crash. The chase began in Woodway after officers stopped Michael Scott Hughes, 31, of Gatesville, Texas, and discovered he had an outstanding warrant for felony parole violations. As police attempted the stop, Hughes fled the scene at high speed, reportedly waving a firearm out the window. The pursuit continued into Coryell County, where Hughes lost control of his 2019 Chevrolet Malibu and collided head-on with a 2023 Volkswagen SUV on FM 929.

 

Hughes, who was the only occupant of the Chevrolet, died at the scene. Two passengers in the Volkswagen, a 61-year-old male and a 68-year-old female, also lost their lives in the crash. The 61-year-old male was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead, while the 68-year-old female succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the hospital. Other passengers in the Volkswagen were injured and taken to the hospital. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash.
