Fatal Surry Hills shooting death of Niddal Acherkouk – Obituary
Police have identified the man killed in a targeted attack at a service station in Sydney’s inner-city suburb of Surry Hills as 31-year-old Niddal Acherkouk. The incident occurred on Friday evening at approximately 7:45 PM, with Acherkouk ambushed while sitting in his vehicle.
After being shot, Acherkouk exited his car and attempted to flee on foot along Cleveland Street but collapsed near Baptist Street, where he succumbed to his injuries. NSW Police Superintendent Andrew Garner confirmed the victim suffered a critical gunshot wound and later died at the scene.
Authorities believe the shooting was a calculated and deliberate attack, linked to organised crime. Shortly after the incident, a Porsche was discovered burning in Kensington, a nearby suburb, and investigators suspect the events are connected.
Police sources revealed that Acherkouk had previously been warned about threats to his life. Despite the shooters remaining at large, authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots, with one reporting the chaos as “shocking” and others recalling the panic as people ran for cover. The investigation continues as police examine CCTV footage and gather evidence.
