Fatal officer-involved shooting in Malvern, Arkansas, results in the death of Eddie Williams – Obituary
On Friday, November 22, 2024, Eddie Williams, 42, from Malvern, was identified as the suspect in a fatal officer-involved shooting. Arkansas State Police (ASP) Troopers and Malvern Police Department (MPD) officers had been tracking Williams, who was wanted for an earlier shooting near the Hot Spring County Courthouse. At approximately 2:45 p.m., ASP Troopers spotted Williams driving a 2016 GMC Acadia on Moline Street. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, Williams sped away, leading officers on a high-speed chase through a Walgreens parking lot and onto West Page Avenue.
During the pursuit, Williams, armed with an AR-style rifle, exchanged gunfire with law enforcement. Officers returned fire, hitting Williams. Fortunately, no officers were harmed in the incident. Williams was later pronounced dead, and his body was transferred to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an official cause of death determination.
Earlier that day, Williams had been involved in another shooting incident at a business near Locust Street and West Page Avenue. The victim of that shooting sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital.
The ASP Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting. The case will be reviewed by the prosecuting attorney to assess whether the use of deadly force was justified under state law. In the meantime, the three ASP Troopers and two MPD officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol.
