A 36-year-old San Diego resident, Moises Duarte, tragically lost his life after being stabbed during an altercation in the Grant Hill neighborhood last week, according to authorities.
Police responded to reports of a confrontation near 27th Street and L Street on Friday at approximately 4:46 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered Duarte suffering from multiple injuries, including at least one stab wound and head trauma. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators revealed that Duarte had a prior conflict with one of the suspects, linked to a vandalism incident at the same location roughly a month ago. Although the earlier physical dispute was reported to authorities, the vandalism was not. When the men encountered each other again on Friday afternoon, tensions reignited, escalating into violence.
During the fight, the suspect’s vehicle was damaged using a rock and a bat before it ultimately crashed into a pole. A father and son, identified as 37-year-old Emilio Torres Valencia and his 17-year-old son, were arrested at the scene. Valencia was hospitalized for injuries sustained during the altercation and later taken to county jail, while his son was transported to juvenile hall. Both were subsequently released pending further investigation.
Duarte’s 15-year-old son was present at the scene but faces no charges. He has since been released into the care of his mother.
