Lazaro Martinez, a 14-year-old boy from Princeton in southwest Miami-Dade County, tragically lost his life while crossing the street near his home.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Martinez was struck by a black Audi on Southwest 112th Avenue near 232nd Street. The collision occurred just steps away from his home, and his 8-year-old cousin was reportedly a witness to the tragic event.
Former teammates, including Karem Johnson, remembered Martinez as a talented quarterback with the Miami Knights, noting how much he loved the sport. The local community is deeply mourning the loss of the young athlete.
The driver of the Audi remained at the scene, and the Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
Residents of the area, where accidents are frequent, have called for improved lighting to prevent further tragedies. Just a year ago, a man was also killed in a crash near the same location.
