Angela Schantz, 42, from Remsen, has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash on Route 49 in Floyd that occurred on November 22. According to investigators, Schantz was driving the wrong way in her 2022 Ford Explorer around 10:30 p.m. when she nearly collided with several vehicles before crashing into a 2025 Volvo truck. The impact caused both vehicles to burst into flames.
Authorities reported that a deputy on the scene was unable to rescue Schantz from her vehicle before the fire overtook the SUV. The truck driver was unharmed in the incident. After conducting an autopsy, the Onondaga County Medical Examiner confirmed Schantz as the sole occupant of the Ford Explorer. Investigators are working to determine where Schantz had been prior to the crash.
