Fatal St. Charles shooting death of Daniel H. Escalera – Obituary
Daniel H. Escalera, 41, from Stockwell, Indiana, was fatally shot by police after he attacked residents and officers with a chainsaw at an assisted living center in St. Charles on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at the River Glen of St. Charles facility, where police were called around 8:45 a.m. for a welfare check after reports of a shirtless man with a chainsaw.
Escalera confronted residents and officers inside the building, and after attempts to de-escalate the situation failed, an officer fired his weapon, striking Escalera. He later died at Delnor Hospital. Authorities are investigating the officer’s use of force, and a review will follow.
