Rene Bucaro, a 62-year-old security guard, tragically lost his life in a crash Friday night in Discovery Bay. Bucaro, who had been filling in for a colleague at the guard station, was killed when a Hyundai Santa Cruz truck crashed into the structure. The impact also caused significant injuries to another guard and left the 17-year-old driver with minor injuries. The collision occurred just before midnight on Balfour Road, in front of the gated community called The Lakes. The driver, who had a provisional license, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter after being treated for injuries at the hospital. Authorities are investigating why the truck veered off the road and struck the guard shack.
