Fatal Homosassa plane crash claims the life of Steve Mensch – Obituary

Sixty-two-year-old Steve Mensch, a prominent executive at Tyler Perry Studios, tragically lost his life in a plane crash on Friday evening while piloting a small aircraft in Homosassa, Florida.

Local authorities confirmed that Mensch was flying a single-engine Vans RV-12IS when the aircraft went down near an intersection, about 60 miles north of Tampa. Emergency responders found the plane overturned on the roadway, with Mensch, the sole occupant, pronounced dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident. Preliminary findings have not indicated any immediate mechanical issues, but further details are expected as the investigation continues.

Mensch joined Tyler Perry Studios in 2016, serving as president and general manager. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the expansion of the studio’s massive 330-acre Atlanta campus, establishing it as a leading hub for film and television production. His advocacy for Georgia’s film tax credits played a key role in solidifying the state’s prominence in the entertainment industry.

Before his work at Tyler Perry Studios, Mensch held leadership positions with Turner Broadcasting and Feature Systems, earning widespread respect for his contributions to the film business.

In a statement, Tyler Perry Studios expressed their profound loss: “Steve Mensch was more than a colleague; he was a visionary leader and a beloved member of our team. His impact on the studio and the film industry at large cannot be overstated. He will be greatly missed.”

Mensch leaves behind his family, friends, and colleagues, who remember him as a dedicated professional and an inspiring figure in the entertainment world. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
