Fatal New Salem crash deaths of Gerald and Margaret Patriquin – Obituary
Gerald Patriquin, 89, and Margaret Patriquin, 74, both from Gardiner, lost their lives in a tragic multi-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in New Salem, Massachusetts.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Route 202 near 648 Daniel Shays Highway. According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the crash involved three vehicles, including a commercial dump truck.
Gerald Patriquin, the driver, and Margaret Patriquin, his passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 45-year-old man from Chicopee, driving one of the other vehicles, was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries. The third driver, a 35-year-old from Orange, was treated for injuries at Athol Memorial Hospital.
Route 202 was closed for several hours as emergency responders conducted investigations and cleared the scene. The incident remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives and specialized units. Authorities have indicated that no charges are expected to be filed.
