Mariano De-Marco dies in fatal North York shooting

Fatal North York shooting death of Mariano De-Marco – Obituary

A 69-year-old man, Mariano De-Marco, was tragically killed in a shooting outside his home in North York, Toronto, early on the morning of December 9, 2024. Police have indicated that this was a targeted attack, though further details are still under investigation.

De-Marco’s death marks the 82nd homicide in Toronto this year. The fatal shooting occurred at approximately 4 a.m. when a parking enforcement officer found De-Marco’s body on the driveway of a residence near Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue East. Authorities confirmed he had sustained a gunshot wound and was already unresponsive when discovered.

Detective Sergeant Aaron Akeson of the Toronto Police stated that while the shooting appears to have been deliberate, no additional information could be disclosed at the moment. The investigation prompted the closure of a significant section of Fairholme Avenue, where forensic teams collected evidence and looked for surveillance footage. A black Dodge minivan was also removed from the scene.

A resident of the house, Gicelly Rossetto, expressed shock over the incident. She revealed that De-Marco, who went by the nickname “Max,” had been a familiar figure in the neighborhood and had assisted her personally over the years. Rossetto recalled hearing noises around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m., likely connected to the tragic events, but she did not immediately realize the severity of the situation. It wasn’t until around 5 a.m. that she saw the police presence and recognized De-Marco’s body under a tarp.

Rossetto, who has lived in the home for six years, noted that De-Marco was involved in real estate, possibly owning several properties, including some in London, Ontario.

The police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers or the Toronto Police Homicide Squad.
