Fatal Greenwich, Connecticut plane crash death of Jacob Yankele Friedman – Obituary

Jacob Yankele Friedman, 32, of Monsey, New York, tragically lost his life in a single-engine plane crash Thursday night on Interstate 684 near the Westchester County Airport. The pilot, 26-year-old Kalmen Goldberger of Linden, New Jersey, suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized.

The crash occurred around 6:35 p.m. after the pilot reported engine issues, according to preliminary information from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The Tecnam P-2008 aircraft was en route to Westchester County Airport but crashed in the grassy median of the interstate near Greenwich, Connecticut.

Both individuals aboard the plane were licensed pilots, with Friedman holding a commercial pilot’s license and experience as a flight instructor. Emergency crews responded quickly, closing both directions of I-684 to manage the crash and its aftermath.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with the NTSB focusing on the aircraft, the operating environment, and the pilot’s actions. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.

Governor Kathy Hochul expressed condolences to Friedman’s family and wished a swift recovery for Goldberger. Cleanup efforts were also underway to address an aviation fuel spill caused by the crash.
