Authorities identified 35-year-old Alis Varela-Martinez as the victim found deceased in a wrecked pickup truck near Bryan, Texas, on Wednesday. Varela-Martinez, who had recently been staying at a Brazos County motel, was discovered in a 2002 Ford F-250 at the bottom of an embankment off State Highway, just east of the Brazos River.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the vehicle had apparently veered off the road, rolled over, and ended up down the embankment, hidden from view. It is unclear when the crash occurred, as there were no known witnesses. The wreckage was eventually spotted by a passerby, who alerted authorities.
Next of kin in the area were notified following the discovery. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
