Fatal El Dorado County crash claims the lives of Peggy Liu and Donald Smith – Obituary
The California Highway Patrol confirmed the deaths of Peggy Liu, 50, from Fremont, California, and Donald Smith, 84, of Wellington, in a Thanksgiving Day collision on U.S. 50. The accident occurred east of Audrain Way, about 13 miles south of South Lake Tahoe, around 5:35 p.m.
Smith was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse heading east when it collided head-on with a westbound 2001 Toyota Sequoia driven by 28-year-old Jeffrey Chen of Kirkland, Washington. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
Liu, a passenger in the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jeffrey Chen sustained major injuries, while his passengers Shi Chen, 64, Ellen Liu, 60, and Kevin Chen, 26, suffered moderate injuries. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing.
