Fatal Carlson Boulevard hit-and-run death of Prentiss Jackson – Obituary

Prentiss Jackson, 56, was tragically killed early Sunday in a hit-and-run accident while riding his bicycle on Carlson Boulevard near Bayview Avenue in Richmond, California. The collision occurred around 2 a.m. on December 8, when a vehicle veered off the roadway, crashing into fencing and shrubbery before its driver fled the scene.

Richmond firefighters responded to the incident after receiving a report of the crash. Jackson was found trapped beneath the wrecked vehicle, entangled with fencing material. Despite a 25-minute extrication effort involving multiple fire units, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

Officials noted that a steel fence post pierced through the vehicle’s driver’s side window but narrowly missed any occupants, who had already fled. The crash also came dangerously close to a nearby homeless encampment, avoiding further tragedy.

Richmond Police are investigating the collision as a hit-and-run and working to identify the driver. Preliminary information suggests Jackson, who was riding a bicycle at the time, may have been transient.

“This is a heartbreaking and unfortunate incident,” said Richmond Firefighters Local 188 in a statement, urging drivers to remain vigilant of pedestrians and cyclists on the road.
