Fatal Deptford police shooting death of Jeffrey Jaworski – Obituary

Jeffrey Jaworski, 58, of Sewell, was fatally shot by a police officer on November 28 after jumping out of a second-floor hotel window and fleeing into a wooded area near the Fairfield Inn in Deptford, New Jersey.

Police were called to the hotel around 1:30 p.m. following reports from staff about a guest behaving aggressively. Officers confronted Jaworski, who briefly opened his room door before slamming it shut and refusing to cooperate.

After gaining access to the room, officers discovered that Jaworski had escaped through the window. As police pursued him into the woods, Jaworski reportedly claimed to be armed. Sgt. David Grogan of the Deptford Township Police fired three shots, striking Jaworski once.

Despite being injured, Jaworski continued to flee, crossing Route 42 before being apprehended. Authorities have not confirmed if a weapon was found.

Jaworski was later charged with being a fugitive from justice and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The investigation into the shooting by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office remains ongoing.
